2009 Wish List

Crayon Rocks
You can find these at the Toy Store at the corner of Patterson Ave. and Libbie Ave. in Richmond, Va.

Crayon Rocks have vibrant colors and make beautifully textured art work. They are perfect for little hands to encourage correct grip, a part of motor skill development.

Lite Bright www.hasbro.com
This classic toy is perfect for children from three years old and up. Let their imagination run wild while encouraging proper fine motor skills (grasping the pegs is the same grip you use to hold a pencil).

MAD LIBS www.madlibs.com
We all remember how much fun Mad Libs made us ______ (verb) when we were growing up! Today Mad Libs has books for all the 1st graders and up on your list that tickles their funny bones from sports stories to Star Wars to Hannah Montana! Give your child a change to work on vocabulary, reading, handwriting, and language skills while having a blast!

Word Dominoes www.amazon.com
This game is perfect for beginning readers as well as children who need to fine tune their reading skills. It is similar to Scrabble! It has a book that accompanies the game, but you can use your child’s favorite books too

Golf Pencils www.officemax.com
Ever wondered what was really the correct pencil size for your child…it is a GOLF PENCIL! They are not too fat and not too long for little hands. If you have a golfer in your house you probably have lots of them in your junk drawer, but make some special by having them personalized with your child’s name.

Perfection www.miltonbradley.com
We love the classics this year! Another one of our childhood favorites makes our list. Perfection keeps your child engaged to beat the clock before all the pieces pop up. It develops visual recognition, shape identification, geometric concepts and concentration skills. A tip for beginners, let them put a few shapes in before starting the clock!

Flashcards www.target.com
You can find flashcards really anywhere for a very low price. The dollar stores even carry them! One of Little Scholars’ client’s all time favorite games is Math War! Similar to the regular card game War, but the math problem sum dictates the winner (higher number wins for addition and multiplication and the lower number wins for subtraction and division).

Easel and Paint www.target.com
An easel gives your child a more natural motion for painting and drawing (a vertical surface is easier to write on). Children love to paint! There are so many fantastic paintbrushes with paint already in them, which would be excellent stocking stuffer!

Matching Middles www.fisherprice.com
Matching Middles is adored by two year olds to six year olds! The two year olds are delighted matching and putting the cookies together while the older children enjoy playing the game Memory or Concentration with the pieces.
